Crafters Union Central Otago Pinot Noir 2018
- Soft oak
- Dark cherries
- Subtle dried thyme
- Juicy acidity
Dark red with purple hues in the glass. Lifted dark cherries with a hint of dried thyme. A fruit forward wine with flavours of dark berry fruit, some savoury herbal notes and a juicy acid balanced with oak notes.
The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine were grown at McArthur Ridge, just north of Alexandra. A warm dry summer followed by a mild autumn allowed these grapes to ripen gradually. Grapes were destemmed in field during harvest and spent an average of 13 days on skins, plunged and pumped over twice daily to develop complex berry flavours.
100% malolactic maturation adds complexity to this Central Otago Pinot Noir, and with a soft tannin structure, this wine is approachable while young. Try it lightly chilled.
Food Pairing: Figs, duck and chocolate.
