Crafters Union Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2018

Mid Straw colour in the glass. An aromatic Chardonnay showing white peach and nectarine with nutty and spicy complexities from the oak and MLF. An elegant fruit forward style Chardonnay. The finish is long with the hallmark nuttyness and spice from the barrel fermented and matured portion of the blend.

Using a range of vineyard blocks in Hawke’s Bay, we have crafted a Chardonnay blend that showcases the marvelous spicy, nutty qualities of the varietal. Machine harvested, the grapes were first crushed, then tipped, using gravity to separate juice from the skins and retaining maximum fruit freshness. The tank fermented portion was fermented in stainless steel at low temperature to maximise fruit expression. The barrel fermented component was fermented in small batches of 225L barriques, some with natural yeasts. The wine in barrel remained on yeast lees and was periodically stirred.

Food Pairing: Cheddar, creamy pasta and scallops.
