Dominio de Eguren Protocolo Organic Tempranillo 2017 (Spain)
“Bright and fabulously aromatic, the wine shows dark plum, mixed berry compote, floral, roasted nut and subtle spice aromas, leading to a wonderfully supple palate that’s juicy and fleshy. It’s comforting and flavoursome” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
From 1870, five generations of Guillermo Eguren's descendants have dedicated themselves to cultivating the best vineyards in La Rioja and producing some of Spain’s most highly-commended and sought after wines. The family owns and runs six wineries in total and their generational knowledge and tradition together with modern technology has been implemented in this project in Manchuela with the philosophy of creating exceptional quality, every day wines at affordable prices. The Eguren family sets themselves apart compared to other Vino de la Tierra wines by selecting vineyards with advanced age and low yields and performing a rigorous selection of the grapes.
Organically managed vines planted between 30 and 70 years ago are grown in a continental climate with a Mediterranean influence on poor calcareous clay soils with a high proportion of limestone. The surface is spotted with pebbles, resulting in good surface drainage. Cold maceration, 10 days fermentation with selected yeast between 28° and 30° C. Two pump-over’s daily during and post fermentative maceration for 8 days fermentation ensure a vibrant, fruit-driven wine with gentle extraction and soft tannins. Controlled micro-oxygenation softens the wine for early consumption.
Food Pairing: Delicious with beef & lamb dishes, especially rosemary braised lamb shanks.
