Folium Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Noir 2024

Folium Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Noir 2024

Dark ruby-red colour with some depth, and a little lighter on the rim with slight purple hues. The nose is well-concentrated and densely packed with aromas of dark raspberry and red berry fruits entwined with dark herbs, unfolding some earthy detail. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of dark-red berry fruit, raspberries and dark herbs are somewhat restrained, with the unfolding of the mineral detail.

Combining Eons of French viticultural knowledge with Japanese perfection, the ever-humble Takaki Okada is producing wines of sheer class and elegance.

The Pinot Noir is fermented in open top fermenters with indigenous yeast, and it is pumped over for 2-3 minutes a day with no plunging, which is just enough to get gentle extraction. There’s no cold soak but the grapes are picked in the early morning so fermentation takes a while to get going. The pinot is pressed to French oak, 15% new. Generally they show the bright red fruit found in many Pinot Noirs from Marlborough but with the added complexity of savoury, earthy notes and a truly fine textural element.
