Fragrant, spice-drawer, orange citrus and cassis aromas which carry through to a palate that is fresh and defined with flavours of blackberry and brambles, savoury notes and a supple structure of well bound tannins. Fine and long on the finish.
Grown in our organically certified vineyards located on an elevated inland terrace of the Waimea Plains beneath the foothills of the Richmond Ranges. This ancient alluvial terrace of clay-rich loam and river stones over deep gravels is free draining and warm. A blend of fruit from the Home and Morison blocks - little more than a stone’s throw apart. Low yields, small-batch, wild fermentation prior to eleven months aging in French oak and natural spring malo are the foundation of this wine. Certified Organic and Vegan Friendly.
Hand harvested 16-20 March 2020. Short ambient pre-fermentation soak of 1-3 days with single pump over. Both inoculated and wild fermentations. Punch downs daily during primary fermentation. Time on skins 11-18 days. Eleven months in 228 and 500 litre French Oak (8% new and 26% 1-year old. Natural MLF completed spring/early summer in barrel. Un-fined and with light filtration. Bottled June 2021.
