Hãhã Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2021

Hãhã Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2021

  • Toasty oak
  • Golden peach
  • Honeydew
  • Creamy

"It's attractively ripe and elegantly fragrant on the nose showing apricot, rockmelon, lemon zest and nougat characters, followed by a supple palate offering bright fruit intensity together with smooth texture and juicy acidity, making it comforting and tasty. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022

Pale straw in colour. Enticing fruit aromas of ripe golden peach, apricot and grapefruit, supported by toasty oak. The palate is broad and soft, with delicious flavours of peaches and honeydew melon, accentuated by the extra creaminess and texture from the lees aging.

The fruit for our 2021 Chardonnay was sourced from vineyards located on the silty river banks of Hawke’s Bay.

Vintage 2021 has been of exceptional quality and the resulting wines will be celebrated and reflected on for many years to come. With a lower yield due to a combination of frosts and cooler weather during flowering, the grapes ripened quickly resulting in a compact and quick harvest.

The parcels of fruit were harvested and gently pressed on arrival to the winery. The juice as the cold settled before being inoculated with selected yeasts to undergo controlled fermentation in a mix of tanks and barrels. Approximately 50% of the parcels went through malolactic fermentation to add complexity and add to the creamy mouthfeel. Following fermentation the wine was aged on full lees prior to blending, stabilization, filtering and bottling.

Food Pairing: Superb on its own or lightly chilled with a full-flavoured creamy lemon chicken dish.
