Julicher Estate Martinborough Pinot Noir 2016
This wine displays a dark cherry red in the glass, accompanied by sweet ripe blue and red fruits with lifted rose petal floral notes elegantly lifting from the glass, later developing hints of Bergamot orange peel. The palate is bright with a vibrant acidity, combined with fine, chalky tannins to provide an elegance and purity that typifies Te Muna Road Pinot Noir. The clean finish juxtapositions the complex, earthy undertones of the mid palate.
This wine is a blend of four different Pinot Noir clones sourced from a single block in their vineyard. The season began with early frosts that brought the fruit level naturally down, then the following growing season was ideal for Pinot Noir: warm days followed by cool nights.
The grapes were hand-harvested and de-stemmed into small, open top vats for fermentation. They recieved five days of col pre-fermentation maceration before the fermentation began. The cap was treated with a punch down three times daily during the peak of fermentation. After fermentation finished, the wine was pressed into new and old French oak barrels for maturation and underwent complete malolactic fermentation in the spring. It was racked off lees for blending and filtered for clarity. This is a single block, barrel select wine.
Food Pairing: Well matched with the rich flavours of rare roast lamb or Italian inspired juicy spaghetti & meatballs.
