Kahurangi Estate Nelson Pinot Noir 2024
A delicate wine with an aromatic bouquet of wild red cherries, raspberries and a whisper of rose petal intertwined with subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it reveals a medium-bodied elegance where vibrant red fruit seamlessly merges.
We source grapes from several sites around the Nelson region encompassing the Waimea Plains with it’s rich alluvial soils to the Moutere Hills and their intense clay loams. Nelson’s cool maritime climate allows us to produce distinctive wines from the various sub-regions.
The home-block vineyard, located near the iconic Upper Moutere Village was first planted in 1973 and contains a number of varieties including Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Montepulciano and the oldest commercial Riesling vines in the South Island. Kahurangi Estate was established in 1998 and continues to be a leading brand in the quality focused Nelson wine scene.
Fruit sourced from 3 of our growers in the Nelson region from predominantly Moutere clay and stony alluvial soil. Initial hand plunging in open fermenters for 4 weeks then small portion of maturation in 1 & 2 year old French oak barrels, with majority of wine maturing in older French oak barrels for 10 months.
