Incredibly refined and elegant, the Kelly Washington Pinot Blanc shows a wonderful synergy between vibrancy of fruit, phenolic structure and texture. Seamlessly dry and lengthy, the wine shows off nicely the minimal intervention in winemaking practise, yet is also expressive and fleshy, with ample concentration.
After the challenging nature of both 2017 and 2018, a remarkably trouble free vintage was very welcomed for 2019! A long, hot, dry summer ensured fantastic ripening, with all of their Pinot Blanc bunches ripening very consistently. The trick was to pick early enough to retain acidity, which is the hallmark of all their of wines at Kelly Washington. They managed to pick the block at a wonderful level of ripeness, with great fruit concentration, acid structure and extremely low disease pressure.
At Kelly Washington they seek the most unique and diverse parcels of high quality fruit, which they translate into their elegant and honest wines.
100% Whole bunch pressed. Minimal settling. 100% wild yeast, 100% high solids fermentation. After a gentle, prolonged natural fermentation of 8 weeks, the wine was transferred from the egg into neutral French oak puncheons to age, on fine lees, for 13 months. Commenced fermentation naturally after 4 days, sitting in a 1600L concrete egg shaped vessel.
