La Mascota Malbec 2023 (Argentina)
"Hawthorn fruit, ripe cherries and licorice on the nose. Simple and fruity on the palate with a medium body and lightly chewy tannins. Simple, fruit-driven finish. Drink now" James Suckling, Jamessuckling.com
La Mascota Malbec shows an intense purple red colour with ruby hues. Aromas of black fruits, jam and vanilla, with a subtle licorice touch. Sweet attack and full bodied tannins. Long and pleasant finish.
'La Mascota Malbec has been produced in very limited quantities from our finest vineyard, named La Mascota, situated in one of the oldest and most prestigious wine regions in Mendoza.
Sourced from selected vineyards in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú, where the vines grow on alluvial clay-loam soils at around 850 metres elevation. The warm 2023 vintage prompted an early harvest to keep freshness and balance, and the wine was aged nine months in old oak barrels for subtle complexity without masking the pure fruit.
Mascota Vineyards was established in 2010 in Mendoza by the Peñaflor group and winemaker Rodolfo "Opi" Sadler, a third-generation winemaker with more than 30 years of experience. Drawing on prized sites in Cruz de Piedra and the Uco Valley, Sadler crafts ripe, expressive wines that have earned strong international recognition.
Food Pairing: Perfect with grilled steak, beef empanadas, or slow-roasted lamb shoulder.
