Leftfield Hawkes Bay Syrah 2017
- Dark plum
- Raspberry & blackcurrant
- Black pepper
- Cardamom spice
This wine is very fragrant on the nose with raspberry, blackcurrant and a hint of cardamom spice. Although the same grape variety as Shiraz, Syrah grown in New Zealand is vastly different in style.
The Leftfield Hawkes Bay Syrah 2017 highlights the lighter and fresher flavours of Syrah with a mix of fruit, spice, and savoury notes making this wine a superb alternative to a fuller bodied Pinot Noir. Nature provided Hawke's Bay with a hot and dry summer followed by cooler wet weather in autumn, which meant the grapes were picked early with freshness and lower alcohols. After fermenting for a couple of weeks on skins with a bit of nurturing from the winery team, the young wine was put to barrel to rest and mature for 18 months before blending and bottling.
Food Pairing: Its sensual palate of plum and black pepper allow it to stand up to fuller flavoured dishes like spaghetti Bolognese or dishes with floral aromatics and spice.
