Leveret Estate Hawke's Bay Merlot Cabernet 2018
- French oak
- Ripe berries
- Spice & subtle herbs
- Fine-grained tannins
A deep red colour. The aroma is very vibrant with ripe berry, plum and spice with a subtle dried herb lift. The palate shows fine grained tannins that provide structure and length to the fruit flavours and a lovely savoury complexity. This wine is drinking well now but will reward cellaring for up to eight years.
This wine is from grapes grown in two of Leveret Estates Hawke’s Bay vineyards - Tantallon and Campbell’s Brook.
The grapes were harvested from the vineyards and transported to the Riverview winery were they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated with a range of yeast strains. The ferments were hand plunged several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 14 days extended maceration. The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 18 months before blending. The wine was then transported by road tanker to the Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in July 2020.
