Leveret Estate Reserve Hawke's Bay Syrah 2021
"Varietal and nicely intense bouquet with scents of dark raspberry and plums, there’s a mix of violets and steely earthy qualities, clay soils and spices from some newish oak. Dry, fleshy, juicy, salivating and tasty. A wine beginning to show some development yet maintains a youthful energy with ripe fruits, some licorice and peppery spice, a backbone of acidity and smoky oak qualities. Well made with best drinking from day of purchase through 2028+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2024
A complex nose, featuring ripe dark berries, blackcurrant, violets, lavender and subtle herbal nots. On the palate it offers juicy black fruit, black pepper, smoked meats, dark chocolate and fig flavours. The wine has a velvety texture with a satisfying finish of lingering black cherry and vanilla notes from oak aging. This wine is drinking well now but can be cellared for up to 10 years.
This wine is entirely from grapes grown in our Tantallon Vineyard in Hawke’s Bay.
The grapes were harvested from the Tantallon vineyard and transported to our Riverview winery where they were crushed to open topped stainless steel fermentation vessels and inoculated with Enoferm Syrah yeast strain. The ferments were pumped over several times per day until dry and then allowed from 2 to 5 days extended maceration. The wine was then pressed off the skins and put to barrel where it was aged for 16 months. The wine was then transported by road tanker to our Katikati winery for final blending and finishing. Bottling was in August 2023.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with steak, grilled eggplant, or spicy sausage.
