Mica Central Otago Pinot Noir 2019
- Unoaked
- Red fruit
- Savoury
- Elegant
Showing beautiful, expressive, crunchy red fruit and underlying savoury notes, this truly feminine style of Pinot Noir exudes structure and elegance.
Grown in Alluvial schist, mineral, focused, the most exaggerated of Central Otago – the low pH and high acid demonstrate this.
Spring was turbulent, but from Dec 1 right through into into autumn –mother nature very generous. Warm days and settled weather have helped to deliver the fruit in beautiful condition.
The fruit was harvested in Central Otago by hand, then bought up to Marlborough in small, refrigerated bins. On arrival, the fruit was moved directly into an open top stainless steel fermenter, 20% whole bunch. The fruit kicked off fermenting naturally 5 days later. It had a plunging by hand twice daily, fermenting strong at a maximum of 30 degrees, finishing 10 days later. The wine stayed on skins for a further three weeks, then was pressed off into older neutral barrels, and a clay amphora pot ( 25%) for the winter. In the spring, it was racked, and blended, and returned to old neutral barrels and amphora. Both portions were blended and clarified naturally, prior to bottling which took place on March 19, 2020.
M I C A – ‘Amica ‘ in Italian, or “ Amigas“ In Spain, – Loving Friendship, this brand represents wines that Jo and Tam are making together. A strong bond that will be there for life.
