Mount Olympus Marlborough Merlot 2020

Mount Olympus Marlborough Merlot 2020

"Youthfully appealing and brightly fruited, the wine shows red berry, clove, subtle game and almond notes on the nose. The palate displays ripe fruit flavours with silky texture and fine tannins, finishing pleasingly dry. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2022

Rich and round aromas of dark fruit, with inky spices, old leather and varnished timber. The palate is fruit driven with rich dark plum, and black cherry flavours, and a hint of alluring spice. The weighty and rounded ripe tannins are supported by well-balanced acidity and a toasted oak finish. Drinking well now, this wine will continue to develop and impress for four to five years from vintage date.

Outstanding fruit for this wine was sourced from low cropping vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau plains. The vigour moderating, free-draining gravel provides a superb base for this varietal.

Once at the winery the wine was hand-plunged to gently extract flavour, colour, and tannin. When primary fermentation was completed the young wine was aged on light lees then blended, fined, balanced and carefully prepared for bottling.

Food Pairing: A great match with beef Wellington and crispy potatoes.
