Mount Vernon Marlborough Pinot Noir 2018

Mount Vernon Marlborough Pinot Noir 2018

  • Red cherry
  • Mixed spice
  • Mixed berry
  • Pleasingly dry

"A friendly pinot, showing red cherry, thyme, mixed spice and subtle mushroom notes on the nose. The palate delivers juicy fruit flavours and rounded mouthfeel, finishing easy and pleasingly dry" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2020

This Pinot is brightly coloured, fruity and soft. Strawberry and raspberry fruit and soft tannin produce a light, elegant wine that shows lovely varietal character. Enjoy while youthful and vibrant or in a couple of years’ time when a few more savoury, spicy characters will start to show.

From a small selection of our Marlborough vineyards including blocks in the Southern Valley and the Awatere Valley. All were pruned to just two canes and then shoot-thinned and fruit-thinned as required to ensure managed and balanced crops with even ripeness.

The grapes for this wine were gently crushed into open-topped fermenters. During fermentation each vat was hand-plunged three times a day to extract flavour and colour before being pressed to old French oak barrels and tank for maturation. These were then tasted and blended before the wine was bottled here at the winery.

Food Pairing: Barbecued foods, salami and cold cuts, ham, pork, roast chicken, grilled foods, seared tuna, dishes with gentle Asian flavours such as star anise and five-spice.
