Mystery Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2023
A classic fruit driven style of Chardonnay with ripe melon and stone fruit flavours, a creamy palate and hints of spicy oak.
The fruit for this wine is from the Crownthorpe sub region of Hawke's Bay, a cool, dry inland area that produces outstanding Chardonnay. These mature, low yielding vines are planted on ancient free draining river terraces overlooking the Ngaruroro river.
The fruit was harvested at the end of March in pristine condition, gently pressed and run to predominantly older barrels for fermentation. Fermentation occurred with a combination of wild and selected yeasts for added complexity. A portion of the barrels went through Malolactic fermentation to add buttery notes and texture. The wine remained on lees until just before the following vintage before blending and bottling.
Food Pairing: A versatile food wine, great with roast chicken, with peaches and cream for dessert.
