Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020 (05)

Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020 (05)

  • Toasty oak
  • Black cherry
  • Coffee & spice
  • Silky & full-bodied

This wine has a complex fragrance of dark fruits fused with coffee and spices. The palate shows flavours of black cherry, coffee, and cinnamon with a sliver of black olive brine. The texture exhibits a full-bodied, silky mouthfeel with a toasted oak finish.

Fruit for this Pinot Noir was picked from a single vineyard within the Lower Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, an area that has consistent warm days and cooler nights, creating an ideal climate for farming clone 115 Pinot Noir grapes. The fruit was machine harvested in March 2020 before being carted to the winery where it was kept cold for five days prior to fermentation, helping extract maximum flavour and colour for the wine.

The grapes were fermented, and hand plunged at the peak of fermentation, before being pressed and racked to mixture of 39 per cent new French oak and older seasoned 225 litre oak barriques. The wine matured for 11 months in oak barrels while completing a malolactic fermentation.

Food Pairing: This full-bodied Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with a rich, dark chocolate dessert, or winter’s roast beef.
