Nor’Wester By Greystone North Canterbury Pinot Noir 2020

Nor’Wester By Greystone North Canterbury Pinot Noir 2020

Vivid garnet in colour with vibrant red berry fruits on the nose. The palate is enticing with red cherry, subtle oak spice and fine fruit tannins. As it opens the wine shows hints of leather, dried herbs and wild berry.

The grapes used to make this wine were carefully selected from three vineyard blocks with diverse terrior: alluvial river flats, calcerous clay and clay loam.

2020 produced beautiful but small Pinot Noir bunches with great flavour concentration. Extensive crop and canopy management at each vineyard was undertaken to ensure grapes attained full maturation which leads to great fruit flavours and richness.

They fermentated their Dijon clones of Pinot Noir in small batches and hand plunging allowed for careful extration of natural fruit tannins. After three weeks they pressed the young wine to French oak barrels, where the wine matured for 9 months, allowing for evolution of tannins and fruit flavours. They bottled the wine on their estate with no fining.
