Peter Yealands Reserve Hawkes Bay Syrah 2015 (T)
Complex and floral, this wine exhibits concentrated dark fruit aromas with a supple palate that is silky, yet rich. This wine is structured with layers of sweet, firm tannins and a long finish.
The 2015 vintage was another great season in the Hawke’s Bay. A combination of dry weather, warm days and cool nights gave ideal ripening conditions for all varieties. The fruit for this wine comes from two of our Syrah blocks situated on the Gimblett Gravels, which consistently produce ripe fruit with small intensely flavoured berries. The vines are trained to VSP and underwent intensive canopy management and fruit thinning to deliver beautifully ripe fruit. The fruit was harvested and de-stemmed into small open top fermenters. Traditional warm fermentation followed with temperatures peaking at 32oC. We used a mixture of hand plunging and pump over techniques for cap management. After primary fermentation, the wine was left to macerate on skins until the optimum tannin level was achieved. Once in balance, the batches were pressed off and dropped into French barriques (15% new) to undergo spring malolactic fermentation. After 12 months of maturation in barrique, the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling. Enjoy now, or cellar up to 3 years
Food Pairing: Beef ragout or Moroccan lamb.
Suitable for vegetarians and gluten free diets
