Russian Jack Martinborough Pinot Noir 2020
- Red cherries
- Herbs & spice
- Savoury
- Soft tannins
Our 2020 Pinot Noir is a vibrant wine with an elegant rich ruby red hue. Aromas of bright red cherries, strawberries, spice and dried herbs mingle in the glass. The palate follows with soft red fruit and spice complimented by a savoury complexity and soft rounded tannins that follow through to the finish.
We select our grapes from vineyards across Martinborough that deliver lusciously ripe, juicy grapes. Long ago this land, like much of the region, was covered in scrub but thanks to the back-breaking work of men known at the time as swaggers, the land was cleared and prepared for use.
Martinborough is a sub-region in the center of Wairarapa, at the southern tip of New Zealand’s North Island. A rural area with dramatic cliffs carved out by the Ruamahanga River over thousands of years outline the flat plains. It's warm summers, chilly winters, dry climate and mineral-laden rocky soils make it a premier location for growing some of the world’s best Pinot Noir.
Russian Jack is a Kiwi Legend. Originally from Latvia, his thick accent earned him the nickname ‘Russian Jack’ when he arrived in New Zealand in 1912. He spent most of his life travelling the country on foot picking fruit, clearing scrub and befriending locals. He was honoured with a bronze statue after his death in 1968. Russian Jack wines are an ode to the hard work of ‘swaggers’ like him who we have to thank for some of our great vineyards today.
Food Pairing: Best enjoyed with pasta or barbecued dishes.
