Sartori Regolo Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC 2019 (Italy)

Sartori Regolo Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC 2019 (Italy)

  • Toasty oak
  • Ripe cherry
  • Baking spices
  • Chewy tannins

"A spicy Ripasso that tastes like an Amarone. Full-bodied with chewy tannins and a rich finish. Better after 2024" James Suckling, Jamessuckling.com, Jul 2022

"Aromas and flavours of dark plums and roasted red berries, there’s botanicals and spices, flavours of negroni and roasted plums, baking spices and new clove. There’s no mistaking the burst of warmth from the alcohol which is contrasted by the fruit and toasty flavours. Tannins are classic with plenty of texture and spice. A generous style, classic and dry. Best enjoyed with food from the day of purchase through 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Mar 2023

"The 2019 Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso Regolo is dark and moody in the glass, showing black currants, savory herbs and crushed ashen stone. It's soft-textured with a mix of brisk acids and saline-minerals that add a more tactile feel while giving way to ripe wild berry fruits. This leaves violet-tinged florals and exotic spices to linger long through the finale" Vinous, Apr 2022

Deep shades of vivid garnet in colour. A noteworthy bouquet with aromas of red berries crossing over to ripe cherry. Elegantly round and full bodied, dry and velvety, with black-cherry flavours and dried fruit on the lingering finish.

Selection in the vineyard of the best grape bunches. The grapes are subsequently pressed gently and this is followed by a skin maceration at low temperature for 8-10 days. Peculiarity of this product is the following “ripasso” of the wine on the Amarone skins in February. This second maceration favours the extraction of tannins, which give this wine its longevity, and of the typical fragrance of Amarone wine. After the malolactic fermentation, maturation takes place for between 18-24 month in medium and large size oak casks. Finally the wine is refined for at least 6 months in the bottle prior to release.

Food Pairing: This Ripasso is an excellent accompaniment to various dishes, including grilled meat dishes, stews, pastas with rich sauces, and matured cheeses. The combination of fruitiness and complexity makes this wine versatile and a pleasure to taste.
