Spy Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019

Spy Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2019

  • Berry fruits
  • Clove & aniseed
  • Elegant structure
  • Fine tanins

Aromas of berry fruits, clove and aniseed spices create an enticing aromatic blend. Sweet fruit on the palate provides layers of suppleness and an elegant structure with fine rounded tannins.

Grapes were grown in Marlborough from 2 vineyards: Waihopai Valley (Johnson vineyard) in top terraces with clay/silt loam lenses over free draining alluvium, and Omaka Valley (Outpost Vineyard) in variable depth windblown clay/loess over clay-bound glacial gravel, direct North facing aspect, on moderately steep hillside slopes. Clones 10/5, B115, B777, B667, Abel, Entav-Inra 943 were used.

2019 was a very dry and warm growing season producing vines with small yields and great fruit concentration. One of our earliest harvests to date with picking starting at the beginning of March and completed by early April.

Hand picked as individual vineyard blocks in March and kept separate until final blending. Grape bunches are mostly destemmed and all fermented naturally in open vats. After gentle plunging, the wine is drained and aged in barrels for 11 months prior to blending.
