Squawking Magpie Gimblett Gravels Stoned Crow Syrah 2013

Squawking Magpie Gimblett Gravels Stoned Crow Syrah 2013

Deep purple in colour. Fragrant and penetrating aromas of boysenberry and vanilla overlaid with nuances of mixed spice and red rose. Supple and generous in the mouth with warm, ripe red and black fruit flavours laced with finely crushed spice and a hint of black liquorice. A refreshing acidity and very fine tannins give the Stoned Crow Syrah elegance and refinement.

Drink and enjoy now or cellar carefully for 3-8 years to gain extra depth and complexity. Further cellaring for up to 20 years will continue to add complexity.

The 2013 growing season was the true Goldilocks season. Everything was “just right” and the grapes made perfectly balanced wines that showed approachability from the fermenting vat onwards.

The Syrah was handpicked at ideal maturity in perfect weather conditions. To add extra interest and complexity to the Stoned Crow Syrah winemakers included 5% of whole bunches in our small fermenting vats. The fermentation was carried out by natural yeast and after carefully monitored post ferment maceration; the new wine was run off to small French barrels. The wine matured for 18 months in these barrels (20% new), before a very light fresh egg white fining and bottling.
