Te Awanga Wildsong Hawke's Bay Syrah 2020

Te Awanga Wildsong Hawke's Bay Syrah 2020

  • French oak
  • Dark red fruit
  • Cinnamon spice
  • Long, fine finish

"Sweetly ripe and spicy at the same time, it's beautifully fragrant on the nose showing dark cherry, plum, olive, cumin and almond notes, leading to a succulent palate delivering ripe fruit intensity combined with plump mouthfeel and fine tannins, making it flavoursome and immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2022

Bright, vibrant dark red fruits on the nose with sweet cardamom and cinnamon spice. Warm and rich on the palate with boysenberry, plum and dark roasted spices. Fresh and lively palate that finishes long and fine with just a hint of toasty oak.

Wildsong Syrah comes from the Bridge Pā vineyard, in the renowned region of the ‘Bridge Pā Triangle’. Consistently our warmest site, this land was formed around 40,000 years ago as the Ngaruroro River flooded and flowed through the region leaving greywacke stone in its wake. These free draining soils and warm climate allow for a beautiful depth and intensity in the resulting wines.

Machine picked and cold soaked for 3-4 days before fermenting dry with indigenous yeast. Extended maceration on skins before being pressed off into barrel. Indigenous malo-lactic fermentation before 12 months maturing in a mixture of new (15%) and seasoned French oak, before being bottled un-fined.

Wildsong wines are uncomplicated and grounded with a gentle tale or two to tell of the soil they were grown in and the people who made them. Grown with respect, made with heart and packed with attitude. There’s a little Wildsong in each of us.
