Rich crimson with a luminous purple hue, Estate Pinot Noir ’21 has an evocative and aromatic presence – ethereally-dark, ripe berry fruit accented with a deft touch of truffle, smoke and cocoa powder. Dense and lush, the palate has a soft pinot generosity to it that’s balanced against subtle spice notes, fine tannin, ripe acid, and a signature length and digestibility.
Estate Pinot Noir ’21 was harvested between 15 and 23 February 2021 from Te Mata Estate’s own vineyards in Woodthorpe Terraces.
The individual lots were each destemmed and given a traditional warm-plunged fermentation. The resulting wines underwent extended maceration on skins before pressing. The separate wines were then run to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barriques for 11 months’ maturation.
