The Last Shepherd Central Otago Pinot Noir 2023
The wine is a medium ruby red, exhibiting vibrant dark berry aromas with hints of spice and smoke. The palate is rich and savoury with dark cherry and plum fruit characters with fine supple tannins, hints of pepper and spice and a savoury oak finish.
Central Otago is home to New Zealand’s largest high country sheep stations. The original shepherds who worked these stations have moved on, yet their spirit remains. They celebrate these men with their Central Otago Pinot Noir.
This wine is drinking well now, and will develop more complexity if carefully cellared for up to three or four years.
Food Pairing: Pair this wine with roast duck served with a plum sauce, or accented with Chinese five spice. Mushroom and truffle flavours work well, especially alongside meat or game. Later on try with a milder blue cheese such as Gorgonzola.
