Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Marlborough Noble Sauvignon Blanc 2016 (T)

Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Marlborough Noble Sauvignon Blanc 2016 (T)

Shows notes of honey, sun-warmed hay and quince. The palate is oily and rich yet balanced by bright citrus acidity.

Food Match: Best with rich nut based desserts or zesty citrus tarts. Also great with blue cheeses and fruit pastes.

The 2016 growing season started out incredibly dry, with some predicting a severe drought. Fortunately some unseasonal rains in February set the vines up for a great final ripening period. March and April were very consistent, with warm and dry weather experienced throughout Marlborough allowing a harvest that wasn’t dictated by the weather. Late autumn weather conditions provided the perfect environment for botrytis to grow and flourish in our K3 Sauvignon Blanc block on our Seaview Vineyard.

Our Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours.

Late Autumnal moisture provided the perfect conditions to produce our Noble Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit was hand harvested then traditionally foot stomped to see in the end of harvest. After an extended clarification period the juice was fermented for five weeks using a specialised yeast to enhance varietal character. The fermentation was stopped when the wine achieved the best balance. The wine was then stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
