Enjoy now, or cellar up to 2 years.
They were incredibly lucky to be granted permission to create these wines during the global pandemic crisis. For this reason, their 2020 wines carry some very unique memories. The 2020 growing season was very dry, which meant disease pressure was low and some timely light rains kept just enough water flowing in their rivers. They had a classic Marlborough autumn with warm days and cool nights, which created this season’s Sauvignon Blanc with their signature fresh natural acidity and intense fruit flavours. They had fairly stable weather during Sauvignon Blanc flowering, with a small amount of rain affecting some of the later flowering areas, resulting in lighter crops and intense flavours. The Sauvignon Blanc produced from this vintage has concentrated fruit flavours, with a vibrant pure palate and an elegant fresh finish.
Carefully selected parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from their Seaview vineyard in the Awatere Valley were used to create this wine. The chosen parcels lie very close to the sea, imparting unique characters into this wine. The perfect weather conditions allowed the fruit to be harvested with ideal ripeness and flavour. At the winery, the fruit was destemmed and gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 72 hours, after which the clear juice was racked off for fermentation. The individual parcels underwent a long cool fermentation in stainless steel using a range of carefully selected yeasts, to capture and enhance the wines fruit flavours and varietal characters. The wine was then blended, stabilised and filtered in preparation for bottling.
Their wine is inspired by the coast that surrounds them, so close to the ocean that their vines are often misted with sea spray. The beauty of their environment influences how they craft wine, respectful of nature and their land. Yealands believes in sustainable winemaking and creating thoughtfully crafted wines that work in harmony with their landscape. Their Reserve collection brings together the finest fruit from select sites within their vineyard to create a range of premium wines that showcase the best of both their variety and their region.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with seafood such as barbequed prawns or ceviche, light summer salads or asparagus quiche with goats cheese.
