Akarua Bannockburn Central Otago Riesling 2019
"I am thrilled to see the spice note in this wine – the vines are nearing 20 years old and becoming truly connected to their terroir – the minerals in the schist soils presenting as spiciness in the wine. A little higher residual sugar left in this wine results in a fine interplay of delicate fruit sweetness and racy acidity on the palate" Winemaker
Boughs full of citrus blossoms here - lime, mandarin, and orange; plus white stone fruit, ripe pear and a gentle note of talc. Seriously racy with stony minerals, taut bright acidity and a fine spine of chilli and ginger spice.
An exceptionally warm, dry spring and early summer gave us unusually high early season growth. Extraordinary summer heat brought the whole growing season forward culminating in our earliest harvest on March 1st. Late summer brought us record high rainfall with relatively cool daytime temperatures. These cooler temperatures kept disease pressure in check and the fruit delivered to the winery by the vineyard crew was in excellent condition.
