Allan Scott Marlborough Rosé 2021
- Off-dry style
- Strawberries
- Balanced
- Lifted acidity
This elegant salmon pink Rosé immediately presents notes of luscious strawberries and cream. The palate is beautifully balanced with soft, ripe berry fruit flavours and a lift of acidity on the finish, truly a touch of summer in a glass
Vintage 2021 was a normal growing season compared to last year’s uncertainty, except for harvest commencing early and finishing right before the Easter long weekend. The team expected a lower producing year due to a combination of frosts and cool weather during flowering that has caused “hens and chicks” across most grape varieties. As a result of lower crops, they anticipate 2021 wines to have more flavour concentration, and be more textured on the palate. Careful planning and meticulous attention in the vineyard kept their grapes growing to their full potential. Overall, great sunshine hours, low disease pressure, light crops, and ripe fruit, all come together to produce some outstanding fruit and in turn some great wines
The fruit was picked early-March and a percentage was macerated on skins for 4 hours before pressing off. Another proportion was drained off tanks to help with concentration. The wine was fermented very cool (10⁰-13⁰C) to preserve the fruit characters and the bright lively colour. After only a short time on lees (2 weeks) it was racked and sulphured, before being filtered and prepared for bottling.
Food Pairing: Best served chilled, this is a perfect ‘snacking wine’ – i.e.: quaff on the terrace with a platter of delicious savoury treats from your local deli.
