Black Barrel South Australia Shiraz 2022 (Australia)
"Fruit forward and nicely lifted, the wine shows dark cherry, sweet strawberry, thyme and mixed spice aromas, followed by a juicy palate offering silky mouthfeel backed by fine-grained tannins, finishing lingering and supple. At its best: now to 2027 " Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 2024
Deep purple colour with aromatic notes of red berry and blackcurrants framed by violet overtones and subtle cedarwood spice. The palate is dense and plush, with flavours of blood plum, chocolate, blueberry and spice framed by subtle oak toast and fine tannins.
Harvest started approximately 2 weeks later than the past 10 year average with Shiraz being picked mid to late March. A wet spring provided optimal soil moisture throughout the harvest months, spring storms resulted in lower than usual fruit set and although yields were lower the quality was high. Mild summer temperatures facilitated a long and slow ripening period which resulted in optimum colour development, and balance between fruit flavour and tannin.
Fruit from low yielding vineyards vinified in small open fermenters and hand plunged before partial maturation in three hundred litre, high toast barrels for six months.
Food Pairing: A generous wine, packed full of flavour that would pair perfectly with roast lamb.
