Camshorn Hawke's Bay Riesling 2020

Camshorn Hawke's Bay Riesling 2020

  • Dry style
  • Lime & spple
  • Orange blossom
  • Fresh acidity

This wine opens with aromas of lime, apple and orange blossom. The palate is pure and intense, with a strong citrus core and fresh acidity. The wine comes across as dry, but the touch of residual sugar dials the fruit flavours up to 11, which are tempered with a clean minerality and pithy edge. The wine finishes long, with a ripe citrus impression.

Their Camshorn vineyards are along the East coast on NZ but sheltered from cool Easterly winds by the Teviotdale Hills, allowing warm daytime temperatures at ripening. The vines are planted predominantly on Glasnevin Gravels, which are light, free-draining stony soils, consisting of a thin (200-350mm) silt loam topsoil overlaying a stony, sandy loam with sandy gravels underneath.

Food Pairing: Try matching this food-friendly wine with Japanese tempura, both seafood and vegetable. The clean citrus notes will be great with simple grilled fish such as halibut. The fruit sweetness and touch of spice will pair well with fresh Asian dishes such as chicken larb salad or prawn laksa, but equally with a spicy BBQ pork recipe with some rich molasses sweetness.
