De La Terre Hawkes Bay Late Harvest Viognier 2018 (375ml)
- Dessert style
- Lychee
- Lemon blossom
- Long, clean finish
A golden yellow in the glass when young with a slow evolution to an even more golden hue with time in bottle. Showcasing an aromatic and fruity nose that is very expressive with lychee, honey-suckle, and pretty lemon-blossom notes. Lively fresh white fruits in the attack move through a reasonably linear mid-palate and into a long, clean finish. There is a seam of acidity that runs alongside the fruit to retain freshness and balance.
Following on from the success of the De La Terre Noble Viognier, this wine is a lighter and more fruit-driven variant of Viognier dessert wine.
De La Terre wines are completely artisanal. From the vineyard to the glass the personal touches are evident at this small family-owned boutique winery that specialises in hand-made wines from an unusual mix of grape varieties. The wines are crafted by Tony Prichard, owner and winemaker, in the small earth-brick winery he built, west of Hastings. The name De La Terre, literally meaning 'of the earth', is a reference to both the vineyard soils and the earth brick construction used in the winery and cellar door. Tony and his wife, Kaye, handcrafted this business from scratch, driven by their shared passion to create and produce quality products and to provide a personal touch in everything they do to offer something a little different from the norm.
Food Pairing: Enjoy chilled with a platter of fresh figs, walnuts, mild creamy blue cheese and salty rice crackers.
