Greenhough 'River Garden' Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Greenhough 'River Garden' Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2022

  • Dry style
  • Passionfruit
  • Tangelo
  • Juicy & ripe

"Certified organic, this consistently rewarding wine is grown on the Waimea Plains and mostly handled in tanks; a small portion is fermented with indigenous yeasts and lees-aged in French oak casks. The 2022 vintage (4.5*) is freshly aromatic and medium-bodied, with intense, vigorous tropical fruit and herbaceous flavours, woven with appetising acidity, and a dry (3.1 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Good drinking for the summer of 2022-2023" Michael Cooper, Nov 2022

Classic aromas of fragrant citrus zest and passionfruit. The wine is juicy and ripe with tangelo and tropical, passionfruit flavours balanced by a bright line of 'crunchy' freshness.

Organically grown on the Home and Morison Vineyards, their vines are pruned to a single fruiting wire. Higher density planting than what is typical for this variety does ensure average yields are achieved however.

This fruit was machine harvested in several parcels to ensure a spectrum and balance of flavours. Predominantly tank fermented using a selection of aromatic yeasts, a small percentage of high-solids juice was wild fermented in barrel. The savoury, spicy, very textural character of this portion contrasts markedly with the fruity freshness and varietal purity of the tank fermented portion. Largely concealed within the overall blend there is nonetheless an implied layer of texture and dimension which contributes to the finished wine.

A classic ‘top of the south’ style, vibrant and ‘crunchy’ in spirit. A small portion of high solids, wild fermentation in neutral oak has tamed the most overt of Sauvignon characters and contributed subtle palate texture and depth.
