Kumeu Village Pinot Noir 2019
- Red fruit
- Lifted aromas
- Chalky tannins
- Dry finish
The wine displays a bright cherry red colour in the glass, with delicious lifted red fruit aromas. On the palate it is cool, round and fruity and with a nice hint of chalky tannin that makes the wine superbly dry and refreshing.
2018 was the first vintage from Rays Road and winemakers were excited by the potential they saw with the Pinot Noir. Now, from the excellent 2019 vintage they have consolidated that quality expectation, and this year have blended the grapes from Rays Road with some outstanding richer Kumeu fruit with delicious results.
In April 2017 Kumeu Village took possession of a vineyard at Rays Road in Hawkes Bay that was already planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard soil is wind-blown clay loess over limestone, so we were particularly keen to see how these varieties performed.
100% hand harvested, de-stemmed and then crushed. Indigenous yeast fermentation for 2 weeks total, cuvaison twice daily, remontage, 7 months maturation in tank.
