M by Montana Marlborough Pinot Gris 2022
This Vibrant Pinot Gris from Marlborough jumping out of the glass with intense perfumed aromas of pear, guava, and rockmelon with notes of honey, white flowers, and a hint of gentle spice. The palate is vibrant with a round texture, driven by flavors of red apple and pear, with a lovely play of light, yet rich sweetness and a great acidic backbone. This wine is released ready to drink and bursting with fresh fruit flavours. It will gain some deep honeyed notes over 3-4 years of careful cellaring.
A large proportion of the grapes came from the Awatere, with over 60% of the fruit grown on free draining gravel soils overlaying clay. The rest comes from a mix of Southern and Central Wairau, with a mix of clay, loamy and stony soils.
The grapes for this wine were machine harvested, then crushed and gently bag pressed off to achieve fresh, elegant juice. The juice was clarified and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, using selected aromatic yeasts. No malolactic fermentation or oak were used in the winemaking, as pure expression of ripe fruit was the desired style, and only the most varietal and fragrant wines were selected for the final blend.
Food Pairing: This Pinot Gris will be lovely as an aperitif but will also accompany wonderfully a platter of rich goat cheeses. Try it with spiced grilled chicken and green salad with pears and roquefort cheese, or even with a rich and creamy dessert such as panna cotta or a rich New York style cheesecake.
