Mountford Estate Liaison Waipara Riesling 2021
- Medium-dry style
- Orange blossom
- Honeycomb & citrus
- Zingy acidity
The Mountford Riesling is pale straw with aromas of orange blossom and honeycomb. On the palate, it has classic North Canterbury flavours of lemon/lime peel and a zingy acidity with 18g/l residual sugar to balance. This Germanic style is drinking perfectly now or can be cellared for another 10 years.
The fruit of this Riesling is the first sourced solely from the Mountford Vineyard itself and made into its own wine. Planted in 2008 at very high density the vines took a long time to mature. The first harvest in 2011 was blended into wine which came from other fruit around the Waipara Valley. Each vintage from there was also blended with other parcels so this wine is very speical to Mountford Estate.
Wine was innoculated with DV10 yeast and fermented slowly at low temperatures. Minimal sulphur was added. Wine matured in stainless steel and was left on lees for 2 months.
