Mountford Estate Waipara Rosé 2020
- Dry style
- Strawberry
- Stonefruit
- Crisp linear acidity
Light pink in appearance, this Rosé has aromas of white fleshed nectarines, citrus blossom and strawberries, while the palate has an abundance of summer berry fruits and tropical fruits, which is finished with a crisp linear acidity.
The vineyard is set in a park-like environment on the North West face of the Waipara Valley’s eastern hills below the Teviotdale range. Dubbed the golden mile, the aspect gains high amounts of light and heat. The soils, which are marl (active limestone), add a fine minerality to the finished wines.
The fruit came from both Mountford Estate and selected vineyards all within 2 kilometres of Mountford Estate. All fruit was handpicked into small 15kg picking baskets and sorted for the highest quality fruit for this Rosé.
Using fruit from some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines at Mountford Estate. This Rosé was whole bunch pressed Settled over night before being inoculated for fermentation. Post fermentation the wine was racked and left on fine lees for 3 months in a stainless-steel tank.
Mountford Estate creates wines of character and quality through a policy of watchful, non-interventionist winemaking. A combination of new and traditional techniques and technology are used. Mountford Estate has transitioned to using native yeasts, low sulphur and like all past vintages their wines continue with a no fining or filtration policy where possible. They believe that this is the way to gain a true expression of site and vintage.
