Mystery Marlborough Gewürztraminer 2017
- Dry style
- Turkish delight
- Exotic Asian spice
- Rose water
The nose has delison’s Turkish delight characters, exotic Asian spice flavours (star anis, cinammon, nutmeg) and hints of rose water. All of which carry through onto the palate which shows an appealing soft round character with delicate, balanced acidity, hint of sweetness and lingering finish.
The grapes for the Mystery Gewürztraminer are grown in a very special site with geologically older soils composed of crushed river stones.
Vintage 2017 provided a challenge for the Marlborough Region, with a cooler than normal summer ripening season and then some extreme rainfall events at peak ripening time. Most of all, this vintage showed great winemaking decisions. Many wineries saw the weather warnings and got into the harvest; noting ripe flavours at lower sugar levels, meaning the resulting wines, while 0.5% lower in alcohol, are still rich and flavourful. With the ability to react quickly to a changing weather situation we were able to bring in 95% of the vintage before the first of the rain. Beth and John were out tasting the vineyards and with flavour development coming on at lower sugars it seemed there was nothing to wait for! The finished wines look great; flavourful, fresh and definitely showing finesse!
Food Pairing: A wine to enjoy with modern pan Asian cuisine.
