Mystery Marlborough Pinot Gris 2023 (02)
Black Market Mystery Wines™ are simply wines we love, with the branding hidden and revealed only when it arrives at your door!
"Delicately succulent pinot gris with pineapple, ripe pear, apple and white peach flavours. Nicely balanced wine with an initial hint of sweetness and tangy acidity driving a lengthy finish" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, May 2024

Pale straw colour in the glass. Pure aromas of fresh pear and subtle spice. The 2023 Pinot Gris has an elegant structure, with notes of poached pear and creamy vanilla custard.
The fruit was selected from vineyards in Marlborough's Awatere Valley and Southern Valley sub-regions. The growing season had higher levels of rain that cleared up early April, at this time the wind picked up, drying the fruit and leaving behind disease free grapes with delicate aromas. Ripening steadily throughout the growing period, the fruit was continually monitored until a balance of flavour, acidity and physiological ripeness was reached.
During a cool evening, the fruit was machine harvested and brought to the winery where they were destemmed and pressed. The free run juice was cold settled prior to fermentation in small stainless steel tanks. A small portion went through malolactic conversion to add softness and texture. After fermentation, the wine was left on light lees for three months to enhance and retain the varietal characteristics, prior to blending. Heather conducted minimal handling before filtration and bottling, ensuring this Pinot Gris shows a true expression of the grape variety.
Food Pairing: An ideal wine as an aperitif, or paired with lightly spiced seafood.
