Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020 (04)

Mystery Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020 (04)

  • Toasty oak
  • Wild berries
  • Silky smooth
  • Elegant style

A deeply colored Pinot Noir with a purple rim, bursting with ripe berries and a distinct toasted oak fragrance. This wine is fruit forward and shows an abundance of dark fruits with wild berries and blueberry compote. The palate has an elegant style with a smooth, silky structure and a long-toasted finish.

Fruit for this expressive Pinot Noir was sourced from the Omaka Valley in Marlborough, principally from a single vineyard in the heart of the sub-region. This area has rolling hills of clay soils and weathered gravel on the flats.

The fruit was machine harvested later in the growing season to increase flavour concentration in the berries. At the winery, the grapes were chilled for almost a week before initiating fermentation, where the fruit experienced plunging daily. After fermentation, the wine was pressed, racked, and filled into French oak barriques (30% new and older seasoned). The wine continued to mature and develop over 11 months in oak and underwent malacotic fermentation.
