Saint Clair Premium Marlborough Pinot Gris Rosé 2016
"Very pale salmon-pink colour with a little depth, near colourless on the rim. The nose is very fresh and elegantly concentrated with thirst-quenching aromas of quince and pomegranate along with subtle red florals and mineral nuances. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has gently rich and sweet fruit flavours of quince, pomegranate, white stonefruits and suggestions of strawberries, unveiling red florals and mouthwatering mineral notes. The palate is softly concentrated and has a light, dry-textured line with integrated acidity that carries the wine to a lingering finish of florals and minerals. This is a delicately rich and sweet fruited dry rosé with quince, pomegranate and stonefruit flavours along with red florals and thirst-quenching mineral notes. Serve as an aperitif and with canapes over the next 2 years. A blend of Pinot Gris with 3.55% Pinot Noir, the fruit given some skin contact and cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 3.9 g/L RS" Raymond Chan, Apr 2017
Pale Salmon in colour. Lifted aromas of warmed strawberry and spiced pear. The palate is a luscious and weighty palate with ripe fruit flavours of strawberries, raspberries, and poached pear with cream. The acidity is fresh and well balanced with a pleasant persistent finish.
This wine is made from a blend of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The fruit was machine harvested in the cool of the night in order to retain freshness and capture the fruit flavours. The grapes spent only a few hours on skins to extract the delicate flavour, aroma and colour and then carefully pressed. After settling the juice was fermented in 100 per cent stainless steel at cooler temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. At the end of fermentation the wine was stabilised and carefully prepared for bottling.
Ageing Potential: Perfect for drinking immediately this Rosé will continue to deliver over the next two to three years.
Food Pairing: Baby leaf spring salad with grilled fish.
