Spy Valley Single Estate Marlborough Gewürztraminer 2020
- Dry style
- Dried pear
- Ginger spice
- Floral notes
Exotic hints of rosewater and musk with floral notes. Delicate flavours of dried pear and ginger overlay a smooth richness that lingers on the finish. Vibrant in the first few years, the powerful structure of this wine will see it age gracefully with toastier characters emerging as cellaring continues.
Sourced from Waihopai Valley - alluvial stony silt loams, very well drained. Clones: 457, 1106, 1148, GM12, GM14. Vertical shoot positioning, shoot and bunch thinning to restrict yield.
The 2020 season followed a similar pattern to 2019. A warm spring allowed the vines to escape frosts, while an above-average rainfall lead to early flowering. The temperatures in January and February were more moderate which alleviated some of the effects of drought and lead to clean, disease free fruit.
Two Estate blocks harvested over two days with skin contact and fermentation in stainless steel. The wine was aged on lees prior to blending before bottling in June 2020.
