Two Hands Gnarly Dudes Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018 (Australia)

Two Hands Gnarly Dudes Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018 (Australia)

"Juicy and appealing, offering a fresh mix of blueberry, cherry and framboise flavors on a smooth, velvety and spicy frame. Matcha green tea and Szechuan peppercorn details linger. Drink now through 2032" Jeb Dunnuck, MW

Deep dark red with a purple hue in the glass. Aromas of black accent fruits like blackberry, juniper, charcutierie and notes of coal dust and aromatic black pepper. Medium to full bodied in weight. Saturates the palate like only a Barossa Shiraz can. Plenty of bounce and energy across the palate with aromatic notes of dried flower, black peppercorns and a good dose of Barossa preserved meats. Tannin profile starts off sort of cuddly then quickly tightens, finishing quite firmly. Savoury notes of wood-smoke, dried juniper and bay leaf provides a distinct spice profile whilst notes of blackberry bush provides a herbal overlay.

The many parcels making up this wine were crushed into and fermented in 3, 5, 7 and 10 tonne open top vessels. Regular pump overs three times daily were performed during the peak of fermentation to extract flavours, colour and tannins. At pressing, the free run and pressings were combined to tank, then racked to barrel for oak maturation where malolactic fermentation occurred. All batches were kept separate and blended just prior to bottling.

Matured for 12 months in French oak, which 13% was new, and the remainder in one to six year old puncheons and hogsheads.

Drinking great now, this wine will cellar for five to ten years, if cellared correctly.

'Gnarly Dudes' is part of Two Hands 'Picture Series', in which every wine has its own inspiration, and Two Hands own take on popular culture. With some old school polaroid imagery by friend and photographer Don Brice and a quirky back label descriptor, the aim is to bring a smile to your face when you pick up the bottle, reminding you that wines should be approachable and of course… fun. This premium collection of wines deliver regional and varietal distinctiveness packaged under unique and irreverent personalities.
