Wild Earth Central Otago Pinot Gris 2016
Zingy aromas of Nashi pear, grapefruit zest and cherry blossom on the nose lead to a long and vibrant palate of crunchy Williams pear, fresh lime and baked apple which is complemented by a creamy mouth filling texture and mineral finish.
This Pinot Gris grapes that created this beautiful wine came from an established vineyard in the Gibbston Valley (15+ year old vines) that has a history of producing award winning wines. The 2016 harvest in Gibbston was perhaps the best in a decade with pristine grapes harvested at optimal ripeness which enabled us to make a balanced, dry wine with apt acidity which will help the wine continue to evolve for at least a decade.
The grapes were left on skins overnight and gently foot stomped prior to pressing. The fermentation was predominately done at cooler temperatures in stainless steel tanks which highlights the fresh aromatics of Gibbston Pinot Gris. A small portion was fermented in barrel to encourage increased mouthfeel and length. The resulting wine is nearly bone dry with racy acidity - a classy Pinot Gris.
