Yalumba 'Y' Series Shiraz 2017 (Australia)
"Ripe, fragrant and inviting, the brightly expressed bouquet shows dark plum, spiced cherry, toasted almond and floral characters, leading to a juicy palate that is flavoursome and soothing. The wine offers lovely fruit intensity and roundness, finishing long and tasty. Very approachable and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Feb 2018
"Dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on the edge, and very youthful in appearance. The nose is softly full with well-packed aromas of ripe blackberry and dark raspberry fruit along with nuances of black pepper, liquorice and spice. This has a firm core that promises to open out. Medium-bodied, the palate has sweetly rich and vibrant fruit flavours of blackberries and dark raspberries with black pepper and subtle spicy elements. This has good palate presence, and the fruit is supported by supple tannin extraction forming a fine, firm heart. The mouthfeel is bright and lively and the wine flows with good energy and tension to a lingering finish of blackberry jam. This is a fresh and vibrant blackberry fruited Shiraz with a supple palate. Match with barbecued and grilled red meat dishes over the next 3+ years. South Australian fruit fermented to 13.5% alc" Raymond Chan, Jan 2018
Deep crimson purple in colour, a cascade of wild berries - boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry - accompany aromas of black forest cake framed with Indian spices. Rich and ripe, the Y Series Shiraz is a glorious mouthful of South Australia with layers of ripe blackberries and Christmas cake. This is surrounded by soft, fully ripe tannins.
Due to a wet spring and cool, humid growing season, South Australia Shiraz vineyards were harvested two to three weeks later than experienced in the preceding decade. Fine and clear weather during the harvest period made for excellent flavour and tannin accumulation in the Shiraz grapes, as seen in this outstanding wine.
Yalumba's belief is that one good wine leads to another, which the Y Series was created with that in mind. This series represents a collection of iconic classics and exciting new varietals. Each authentically crafted with fruit from South Australia's most celebrated wine regions.
Food Pairing: This wine drinks perfectly with venison sausage, potato mash & gravy, or with vegetarian nachos.
