Babydoll Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2023
"Classic flavours and textures with this wine, passionfruit and green melon, grapefruit and fresh herbs. A just dry wine with a crisp acid line, some wet stone mineral qualities and flavours that mirror the bouquet - green apple and tropical fruits some citrus an herb. Best drinking from 2023 through 2024" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Nov 2023
The nose is lively and fresh, with layers of flowering herbs, passionfruit and citrus aromas. The palate is expressive and attractive, with fresh acidity combined with great fruit concentration and attractive Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy now, or cellar up to 2 years.
Marlborough experienced rather high rainfall during the growing season, resulting in high moisture levels throughout the vineyard. Dewy mornings combined with good crops created a sense of nervousness heading into vintage. However, the weather remained stable, which meant we could pick our fruit when desired and the concentration and health of the fruit was outstanding. The resulting wine is showing the wonderful hallmarks that our Marlborough vineyards are known for - highly concentrated flavours, with underlying purity and minerality.
The individual parcels were harvested and fermented separately, using selected yeast strains for Sauvignon Blanc to enhance varietal character. A long, cool fermentation took place over three weeks, with the parcels then being blended and stabilised, prior to bottling.
Our BABYDOLL sheep live beneath the vines, nibbling on grass and weeds and giving their name to our delicious wines. Small but mighty, they’re wonderful groundskeepers. Yes, they need a little help to keep the mowing going. But it’s all for the good of the grapes.
Food Pairing: Beautiful with fresh seafood and salads. Suitable for vegetarians, vegans and a gluten free diet.
