Black Barn Hawkes Bay Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2014

Black Barn Hawkes Bay Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2014

"Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, very pale on rim. The nose is well-concentrated with intense and tightly held aromas of white and yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits, and interwoven flinty, reductive elements, nutty and toasty oak and mineral complexities. The fruit and aromatics are fresh, lively and taut in expression. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly proportioned with a concentrated core of white stonefruits and citrus fruits harmoniously complexed by flint and mineral reductive notes, and nutty, mealy, toasty oak. The mouthfeel is very refined in texture and enlivened by bright, lacy acidity, lending energy and vitality to the palate line. The wine carries through to a very long, lingering finish with citrus, flint and oak nuances. This is an elegantly concentrated, vibrant but harmonious, complex Chardonnay with stonefruit, flint and nutty oak flavours. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 6, 15, 95 and Mendoza with some 548, 80% estate fruit the remainder Triangle fruit, WBP, 80% indigenous yeast, full barrel-fermentation to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 35% new puncheons and barriques, the wine undergoing batonnage and 60% MLF" Raymond Chan Aug 2015

"This is awesome. Elegant and youthful, yet concentrated and persistent with complex aromas of white nectarine, rockmelon, subtle vanilla and almond. It is beautifully layered and richly textured on the palate, and finishes seamless and expansive. A gorgeous wine. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2015

Lemon green hued in colour. On the nose, citrus, fig and toasty oak. A hint of mineral complexity and a struck match flintiness. A full palate texture, with a spicy oak influence and seamless finish.
