Black Barn Hawke's Bay Chardonnay 2022
- Unoaked
- Stonefruit
- Struck match
- Long finish
"Elegantly styled and delightfully expressed on the nose showing ripe stone fruit, nougat, oatmeal and lemon peel aromas, leading to a beautifully rounded palate offering creamy mouthfeel backed by bright acidity. Harmonious and lingering with stylish complexity. At its best: now to 2026" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jul 2022
"Pure, ripe and fresh with a core of sweet grapefruit and pear then white peach and apple scents. Wood scenst are not a feature in the bouquet so the core of fruit dominates the package of scents. Lovely weight and creaminess with a fine acid line with flavours of pear and quince, lemon and fruit spice, some cool stone mineral quallities and lengthy refreshing finish. Well made, new and ready with best drinking from 2022 through 2026" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jul 2022
Very pale lemon with a green tinged hue. Aromas of citrus and stonefruit with a hint of stuck match flintiness. Focused fruit palate with brightness that leads to a long finish.
Sourced from their dry-farmed Havelock Hills and Tuki Tuki Valley vineyards. Vine age of between 5 to 28 years. Clones 6, 15, B95, 1066. Individual parcels were handpicked between the 2nd and 14th March 2022.
Gently whole bunch pressed, followed by cold settling. The juice was then racked off solids and filled to tank for temperature-controlled fermentation. Yeast was selected for aromatic expression. Post fermentation, blending enabled them to select what Hawke's Bay (and Black Barn) regard as the variety that they are best known for. The 2022 Chardonnay is a fresh, fruit-driven style with underlying palate weight.
